Membrane Filtration

Separation processes that utilize the difference in permeability of water constituents:

Reverse Osmosis (RO) | Nanofiltration (NF) | Microfiltration (MF) | Ultrafiltration (UF)

  • Reverse Osmosis & Nanofiltration
are primarily used to remove ions & are widely used in softening water
  • Microfiltration & Ultrafiltration
separate suspended particles (colloidal matter, micro-organisms, & viruses) from the water
  • Membrane Bioreactor (MBR)
    • Utilizes both MF/UF and a bioreactor to treat wastewater
    • Capable of operating at high mixed liquor suspended solids concentration
    • Higher volumetric loading rate & higher effluent quality when compared to conventional activated sludge sewage treatment systems
    • Removes the need for primary & secondary clarifiers
